Coaching Carousel Continues

Thanks for making it out today. Some sort of demon virus has infested my throat, so this comes to you from my wireless internet activated bed. Not too much news. Pro Bowl's coming up? Still a lot of stories about the NY Giants that you can read anywhere.

An interesting story from the Seattle Seahawks. Jim Mora (Jr. Not of 'PLAYOFFS!' fame) will become the Seahawks' Head Coach after the 2008 season. Although his coaching job in the secondary was very good, especially in coaxing a Pro Bowl season out of Marcus Trufant, I'm not sure this is a good move. Other than the possible schism it will cause between Holmgren in his last year and Mora as incoming Head Coach, I don't exactly trust that Mora is Head Coach material. He had two difficult years in Atlanta, although in his first one he did get his team to the NFC Championship game. His final record with them was 26 - 22 with a 1 - 1 record in the playoffs. Add that to the bizarre snafus that happened while he was coach, with the smelling salts on the sideline and also his radio confession that he would leave the Falcons immediately if offered a job at the University of Washington, and it seems to me that maybe the Seahawks should at least wait until the end of this season and look at other possible candidates. You never know who might come up.

Gregg Williams has been hired as Jacksonville Jaguar's defensive coordinator to replace the outgoing Mike Smith, who has left the organization to become the Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons. As a side note, I think that Mike Smith was an excellent hire. He coached Peter Boulware, Ray Lewis, Jamie Sharper and Adalius Thomas during the Ravens' Super Bowl run and Championship in 2001 and will do a lot for the Falcons. Gregg Williams is also an excellent hire for Jacksonville. I think the Redskins were stupid for firing him as he has done an excellent job (top ten defenses last 3 of 4 years) and he will find a group of very able players in Jacksonville and a tough Head Coach in Jack Del Rio who will compliment his style perfectly. Fired along with their offensive coordinator Al Saunders, the Redskins' owner Dan Snyder has successfully ruined everything he brought Joe Gibbs back to fix. There's nothing left of the last four years in the organization except for some of the players, who will be forced to change with the new coaching staff. Everybody will have to learn new schemes next year, and be the worst for it. You heard it here first folks, the Redskins will not finish above 8 - 8 next year. Okay. Back on topic. The point is basically: Good job Jacksonville, awful job Washington.
