Derek Smith, MLB, Released by 49ers

49ers released 9 year veteran Derek Smith yesterday. Obviously, the emergence of Patrick Willis made his presence on the team expendable. On the flip side though, he's had at least 120 tackles in all of his seasons except this past one, in which he only got 98 in 14 games. He'd be a pretty decent starter for any team that picks him up.
